Health+Writing

I'm sure by now we have all heard about the Indoeshian copywriter who tweeted that she had been working 30 hours non stop. Then, hours or days after that tweet we learned that Diran had slipped into a coma and died shortly after. Diran was only 27 years old at the time of her death.

Please be kind to your body and listen to it. Your body will tell you when it has reached its limit and you must take heed to that warning. Trust me, I understand time frames as well as anyone else. However, you need to learn to prioritize in a healthy, responsible way in order to meet them. Your body and mind should have the proper hours of sleep. You need to nourish your body. That doesn't include quick snacks. You must sit down and eat a healthy meal, preferably breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Most people have life goals and are determined to achieve them. We hear people say, I will sleep when I'm dead all the time. If you have that frame of mind and do not take care of yourself, you will remain true to that saying, more than you'd like. Then, your goals will mean nothing.

I have been guilty of writing without taking a break or eating well. As a writer, we all have those days when our stars are aligned and the juices are flowing. When your creativity is at an all time high, you don't want to stop. But, you must! You are human and there will be other days for you to experience the magic. In the meantime, be kind to yourself, treat yourself, and most of all, love yourself!

Rest in peace Diran. May your death not be in vain. But, a constant reminder that we must be good to ourselves, no matter what.
