Moment of Insanity

Kelly paced the blood soaked floor. She desperately tried to the best of her ability to recollect what could've happened here. The last thing she remembered was her fiancé, George demanding she get out. But, why? None of this made any sense! Why was George lying on the floor covered in blood fighting to breath? Why was a huge knife sticking out of his chest? Kelly continued to pace the floor. She left bloody footprints with every step. She rubbed her temples and mumbled, "Did I do this?"

George heaved in and out in dire need for more air.

Kelly looked at this mangled body that used to be George's. "What in the heck is going on," she spoke falling to her knees beside George. "If I did this to you, please forgive me. I feel like I'm losing my mind. I'm so sorry."

George coughed and more blood spewed with each bark. Within seconds that was the end of George.

Kelly jumped from the sound of the loud bangs on the door. She instantly became afraid of who stood on the other side. She knew it could be the end of her freedom. However, avoidance was the least of her worries once the door was kicked open and the armed policemen poured into the luxurious condo.

Kelly's breathing became short and fast but she still couldn't collect herself. The room became smaller and darker. She was out again. More time lost! Only she awoke in her bed, not a prison cell. Kelly stared at a man laying next to her and sure enough, it was George! She was confused but elated at the same time. She embraced him so tightly it woke him.

"How many times have I told you about waking me up! Get your hands off me," he ordered.

Kelly's smile was quickly turned into a frown. This was how things went in "The House of George". That's the name Kelly began to call home after the first month of moving in with her new beau. He was more like an angry prison guard. He had two major rules, NO FUN AND NO AFFECTION!

"Wake me up in an hour. Get out of here," he said before turning away drifting back into La-La Land.

Kelly eased out of the warm bed in search of her silk robe. She had to hurry and get breakfast started in order to avoid more of George's hateful commentary. "All this for a lousy condo that my name is not even on! Everyone tried to warn me. But, did I listen, NO," she answered herself. "I should have finished school and made a way for myself instead of taking the easy way out. Now, I'm forced to be belittled and berated by this idiot every single day. I'm treated like an animal because its his money his rules," she spat.

"What in the hell did you just say?" George stood in the doorway.

"Nothing," she shrugged. "Why are you awake? I thought you needed an hour?" Kelly sliced the oranges to make her special fresh squeezed orange juice.

"Don't try to play me for a fool! I heard you. If you're so unhappy, you need to get the hell out," he screamed charging towards Kelly.

Her heart began to race. She braced herself for yet another morning of being George's punching bag until she looked down at huge knife clenched in her hand dripping with orange juice. She instantly understood why she saw that horrific vision. Her only question to herself was, should I do it? So, she planted her feet and waited for the boys in blue.
